Exhibit Designer

Job Description

 

Summary:  This position functions as a member of the MSM Creative Team and reports directly to the Creative Director.

 

Responsible for generating award winning, strategic, problem solving trade show exhibit designs. Work integrally and conceptually with Art Directors to explore and define the booth’s overall experience maintaining brand messaging while teaming with PM’s and Detail ensuring designs are structurally sound, on time and within budget. Manage time successfully and be able to work on multiple accounts at one time. Strong presentation skills are required allowing you to effectively communicate and sell your work.

 

Priorities:

  • Communicate and listen to understand clients needs
  • Create exciting exhibit concepts for our clients and RFP’s
  • Able to generate multiple conceptual booth designs meeting the needs and criteria of the creative brief
  • Stay current with market trends and design techniques translating them into everyday projects
  • Take full responsibility on each and every account that is assigned becoming ingrained in the brand, gaining the client’s respect and developing an overall strong relationship with the client.
  • Constantly push the boundaries of rendering styles and craftsmanship.
  • Create ACAD drawings of concepts for engineering
  • Able to articulate and verbally present all work
  • Continually research, source, and utilize new design techniques, materials and solutions
  • Follow MSM Creative’s Core Values and Procedures

Required Qualifications/Skills:

  • 4 year Degree in Design, with minimum 10 years industry experience
  • Strong design portfolio showing creative design solutions
  • Proficient in ACAD, 3D Studio Max, Adobe Creative Suite
  • Working knowledge Microsoft Office/ Excel
  • Able to articulate design concepts to internal and external clients; effective written and oral communication
  • Strong trouble shooting / problem solving abilities
  • Strong time management skills; will work on multiple accounts simultaneously and be expected to meet all deadlines
  • Must be a highly motivated self-starter
  • Must have a sense of urgency to obtain results, consistently meet deadlines and product consistent high quality work, through project completion, while continually keeping an eye on cost
  • Organized and able to manage multiple assignments at once
  • A team player – demonstrates continual collaboration with team consisting of AE’s, PM’s, AD’s and Detail.  Must be open to new ideas and input from team members.

Principle Activities:

  • Communicate and listen to understand client needs – Review client information with account executives. Ask questions to understand client needs fully. Interface with clients, account executives, estimating, production, internal personnel, vendors and other designers in creating and producing solutions in a timely manner.
  • Create exciting exhibit concepts - Create and develop innovative designs for clients and RFP’s. Participates in and leads creative brainstorming sessions to develop new strategies and campaigns. Works within creative teams to elicit best possible solutions for our clients. Create written design estimates of all concepts for estimating final costs to client.
  • Produce exceptional renderings, digital presentations, and sample boards Create stunning renderings for current client projects, and new RFP’s. Supply renderings for presentations and show kits.
  • Creates ACAD drawings of final concepts for engineering - Create and update floor plans for client projects and RFP’s.
  • Successfully presents designs to internal and external clients – Must represent Creative department and MSM successfully in the presentation of new concepts, ideas
  • Continually source and utilizes new design techniques and solutions – Actively pursue and review innovative design trends as they relate to materials, construction, and new design techniques
  • Follows MSM Creative Departments Core Values & Procedures – (See MSM Creative Core Values) Following all procedures and guidelines, including design estimates, storing files on the network and drawing template usage. Requires adapting to any changes in these procedures as they arise.

Creative Lead – Exhibit Design - Additional Activities:

  •  Coordinate exhibit team responsibilities – assume responsibility for workflow through exhibit design
  • Schedule monthly meetings review principle activities for exhibit design and concentrate on needed improvements. Set monthly goals to achieve.

Key Challenges:

  • Increase and expand creative response and output to clients for projects & RFP’s
  • Work as a team with Sales, PM’s, Engineering, and Creative to create innovative, unique cost effective designs
  • Provide a high level of customer satisfaction with internal and external customers
  • Raise the level of rendering ability for all exhibit designers to the same level

Performance Measures:

  • Work with the Creative Business Manager to define 1(one) non-existent or dated processes and eliminate or improve these processes
  • Focus on selling your work through best rendering style (most realistic looking renderings possible)
  • Submit award winning designs to 2(two) industry publications, and 2(two) industry competitions each year
  • Develop and initiate 2(two) new design techniques (i.e. – new lighting method in 3D Studio Max)
  • Create, develop, and execute 1(one) MSM feature product (i.e. – MSM Reflections Booth, Rental Furniture Catalog)
  • Initiate, lead, and participate in creative brainstorming sessions to develop new strategies and campaigns.

Conversely, those who consistently demonstrate a negative attitude or negative thinking can have an adverse effect on the workplace, impacting individual work performance as well as job satisfaction amongst co-workers.

 

As such, MSM believes that attitude is an important performance criteria and it is incorporated into our performance evaluation process and will be measured accordingly.
